Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization is the third offering in the award winning Civilization IV series. A re-imagining of the classic Colonization game Sid Meier created in 1994, Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization is a total conversion of the Civilization IV engine into a game experience in which players will lead a European nation on their quest to colonize and thrive in the New World. Players will be challenged to guide their people from the oppressive motherland, discover a New World, negotiate, trade and fight as they acquire great power and battle for their freedom and independence. Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization does not require the original Civilization IV game to play. Detailed Tutorial Guides Players In Their Conquest - Civilization IV - Colonization provides an enhanced tutorial that will help both fans of the game and brand new players on their way to ruling the New World. Mods and Community Tools - Players will have limitless options for modifying the game to suit their needs.

Customer Rating: Summary: DING-DONG Comment: I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT i DID SUCH A STUPID THING ---- i BOUGHT THIS GAME, WITHOUT LOOKING AND GOING OVER THE REVIEWS. iT WOULD HAVE SAVED ME A LOT OF GRIEF. LUCKLILY IT DIDN'T BREAK THE BANK.AS THEY TELL YOU,"ONCE YOU GET TO LOOK PAST THE COVER AND GET INTO THE MEAT OF IT ALL, YOU FIND OUT THAT THEY PAID BIG BUCKS FOR A COVER AND GAVE MINOR ATTENTION TO THE GAME. TO BAD THAT I COULDN'T GIVE IT A 1/4 OR LESS OF A STAR, BECAUSE THIS IS REALLY WHAT IT DESREVES, AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. YUCK !
Customer Rating: Summary: Very very mixed opinion Comment: I have yet to beat this game and I've gotta admit that I'm a geek when it comes to strategy games - think all CIV games (from I to IV), Masters of Orion I/II, Galactic Civ, Armada, Age of Mythology, Age of Empires, WarCraft, StarCraft, ROTK 1-IV, Star Con 1-2, etc.
I admit that I'm a big fan of the old Colonization game and am pretty disappointed by this remake. The old tricks don't quite work (no more become auto-specialists in a trade after working on it for 50+ years) and it's pretty impossible to beat (still haven't done it and am about to 'quit'). 'course, perhaps the only real way would be to hoard guns/horses in wagons and don't even get liberty bells until toward the end, right before revolution.
It was entertaining for some time so we'll see. As others have said, there are tons of balancing issues, which can be partially fixed via 3rd party patches (just google it). All in all, a 1st-class classic became a 2nd-rate game that may be improved upon in a version III but I'm not hopeful.
Customer Rating: Summary: Disappointing Comment: I have played almost all Sid Meier games and I love Civ II, Civ III, Alpha Centauri and the first Colonization game. But since Civ IV all Sid Meier games lost their magic and are really disappointing.
Colonization is to difficult like Civ IV and have a simplified game mechanic similar to the terrible Civilization Revolution for consoles.
Therefore, if you like games like this buy the original Colonization and have fun with it although the graphic is dated.
Customer Rating: Summary: Extremely Dissapointed Comment: I have played Civ since it first came out, way back in the early 90's. I've played all of the civ games and the orginal colonisation which was a lot of fun. This game is terrible, and you cannot win it. Simple tasks take an impossibly long time (train at a university), and the English Army is impossibly huge. It doens't hold a candle to the original colonisation and whoever put out this game should refund the money to all who bought it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Unexpectedly monotonous Comment: I like most of the Civ. Series, which I easily get addicted to and waste (enjoy) countless hours of game play. Not so with SMC4: Colonization... It started out with a pretty good concept but comes abruptly frustrating once "declaring independence".
I read a bunch of reviews and tip blogs out there on the best approaches to dealing with the European response to independence, but I found that it basically gets far too difficult and unplayable at that point.
I did enjoy the economic aspects of the game, creating systems of wealth creation, training specialists, and trading with Europe.
The only thing that got me to go back and try again was that I couldn't believe it was so difficult, so I tried a bunch of different tactics to no avail. After about 2 weeks of this on my PC, I gave up and am done with it.
Buy a less frustrating game, maybe another SMCiv game. Don't waste 2 weeks on this one.
