Customer Rating: Summary: For $60 I would expect a little more Comment: Mortal Kombat vs. DC is a pretty good game, for about eight hours.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story line mode, it was the right blend between comic book and video game story telling.
However, once I completed both story modes and unlocked the two secret characters I then felt like there was nothing else to do in the game.
There are of course endings per character in the game and achievements to get, but overall I was sort of bored with the game after that.
The controls are all right and the graphics very nice. I get sort of frustrated with the fatalities being too difficult to pull off.
My biggest complaint so far is that there isn't much to the game outside of the basic head-to-head combat. I mean, I feel as though there should be different modes, maybe a tag mode. There are not enough secret characters to make me want to play more. In truth there are no challenges I'm even remotely interesting in trying to accomplish and no treats for accomplishing them. The character endings are sort of bland and sort of like bad/boring Twisted Metal endings (though Twisted Metal endings are better and funnier).
So basically, in this day that I'm paying $60 for a game, I'm not too happy with what this game delivered in the sense of content. No special game play modes, no interesting endings, not enough secret content and so on.
Here are a few things I think could have improved the game:
1. More fatalities (2 per character isn't enough for me)
2. More secret characters
3. More special play modes
4. Maybe some sort of Battle Chess mode, where you get to play chess using each side and there is a little quick animated fights as a piece is taken. (maybe you can even add a challenge piece to this where the player who would normally lose a piece can play a MK combat and the winner is the one who loses)
Anyhow, buy it used for $20, you'll be happier.
Customer Rating: Summary: Writers take note!!!! Absolutely brilliant!!! Comment: Absolutely brilliant on multiple levels of artistic excellence! A wonderful and compelling addition to an already radiant series.
My highest recommendation!
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun for a comic fan or a Mortal Kombat fan! Comment: Let me first say that I haven't really played a fighting game since Street Fighter 3 (On my PS1.) Let me also say that I've never really been a MK fan.
I am, however, a DC comics fan.
I figured this would be an easy game to get my comics friends to play... and I was right. Heroes or villains, there's a lovely selection. MK fans also get an equal selection of classic MK characters.
The controls are easy enough to get used to for your average gamer, so button mashing doesn't last very long. The Rage/Klose Kombat/Free Fall Kombats are lovely additions and I admit I even look forward to using some of them every round I can.
The "Story Mode" gives you a nice background as to the when and why everything is happening but it does get a bit repetitive so there's not much reason to go through it again and again. Of course the main reason of fighting games is to bash the tar out of your friends, which this game does very well. Again and again and again.
I bought the "Kollector's Edition" because it was cheaper Gold Box deal and wasn't very impressed with the "extras" DVD but it has some quick, interesting things on it. The lack of a normal game case makes switching games a bit annoying, but for the price... the extras might be worth a few extra bucks for a hardcore fan.
All in all, the kombat is excellent. The graphics are lovely. The characters/story work well together. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars would be the short/repetitive story play, which I admit (being more of an RPG fan) is what I love in a game I'm paying $40+ for.
You will get hours and hours of fun out of this, though, so it's definitely a must have!
Customer Rating: Summary: kollectors addition package is Horrible Comment: Go with the standard edition. The kollectors edition has a flimsy, flimsy outside box with a plastic sleave to hold it together. Inside you'll find the tiny, cheaply printed stupid comic brochure, a print of the cover art in a silly sealed plastic cover (ohhh, fancy like my grandma's china cabinet, ooohhh, very pretty and very expensive; NOT! Stupid and waste of money), the normal sized game manual, and a (now this is where I get fuming mad) small cardbord flipper sleave the holds the two disks. For crying out load, I Paid a premium for this package, I want at least a solid as standard edition game holder. This is pathetic and if I lived in California or some other new age state I'd probably start a class action lawsuit against the company for ripping me off.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wasn't on my radar but glad it landed in my lap. Comment: I originally had no interest in this title. I am am avid FPS buff who hadn't played an enjoyable fighting game since Dead or Alive 2 on the original Xbox. So when this title popped on Amazon's Lightning deals I was a little underwhelmed. How ever I had recently watched a review for the game over at [...]. The game seemed to do a good job of merging two unique universes together. Knowing my girlfriend was a Mortal Kombat fan and I wanting to see the how the joker character played out, I ordered it as a good Thanksgiving game to play with friends.
First Impressions
This game is fun. It's not hard but it isn't impossible. The story line has you jumping from character to character so that your not forced to be one person through out the entire campaign. You gte a scope of how these two worlds merge and whhat good guys and bad guys would do. It's realy easy to pick up and play and realize 2 hours have passed. All the iconic characters have graphic novel feel. It's a nice change rather then seeing The Dark Knight version of the Joker. Though the women all seem to be missing clothing around there boobs somewhere. It was a little to much for my taste.
Violence
Violence is turned down in this game but isn't gone. Think of it as a PG-13 film or even a Dead or Alive game. Finishing moves range from super heroes tossing a player around violently to the Joker just kicking someone in the groin at the end. Sure there are more violent ones that involve neck snaps but it's nothing worse then what you'd see in a PG-13 movie. Well Maybe a little more violent, but it's pretty fun to play with teens and adults all in one room.
Special Edition
Don't buy it. I like this game but this special edition doesn't even come with a proper 360 Green transparent case. In fact the cool box that houses the game doesn't really hold the game. It's more of a box. And inside the box is a DVD sized cardboard SLEEVE (like those AOL free trail ones) that you slide the game into. It's loose in the box just shake it and you'll hear your game smacking around. I really have to suggest the normal editon of this game... otherwise your game might go missing or take 5 minutes to free from the box of doom.
Final Thoughts
If you have kids, don't worry because this game isn't very graphic. Some of the girls dress skimpy but It's treated like a Super Hero Summer flick. It's a great game that is easy to pick up and can really be a great addition to your library especially if you have multiple kids or gamers in the house. If your looking for a good story, this one is decent. All and All it's worth around 40-50 dollars.
