Summary: Underwhelmed
Comment: You know, I got to the end of this game in a few hours and thought...Is that all there is? (It doesn't make me want to see the movie)

The game froze the Wii about 4 times, each requiring a reboot. A couple of times it happened close to the end of the final level meaning I had to replay it completely.

As for 'Quantum of Solace', well, the first 4 or so levels are apparently from QoS and the last 3 or so, but most of the middle is some kind of flashback to Casino Royale. The cutscenes are disjointed and, quite frankly, confusing. Most of the time I had no real idea why the scene had suddenly changed from one continent to another.

The levels are pretty one dimensional (the kind that funnel you in a certain direction) with invisible barriers blocking the way in places. Occasionally there is a chair or a barrel blocking the way - not sure why Bond cant step over it. Very rarely there are two paths past a section, but not usually. The solution to any puzzle is run fast or shoot something - not too much variety.

The controls are pretty well done - sometimes the auto aim picks the wrong thing, but its not too hard to deal with. Stealth is not very hard and if you make noise, invariably the 'elite' guards aren't to smart. There is plenty of ammo and the guns don't seem to be hugely different in power. Telescoped aiming is very simple - not much 'wiggle'.

I need to try multiplayer, and it might change my mind but if you are into single player games, give this a miss. Go and play Resident Evil 4 for a much more complex game with better variety and a much, much, much better (and longer) storyline.

Summary: Disappointing
Comment: There was a time when James Bond and a Nintendo console went hand in hand. Needless to say, those days are long over, as evidenced by the Wii version of Quantum of Solace, which takes a pretty decent game that appeared on other consoles, and just practically slaughters everything about it. On more powerful consoles, the game is noted for running on the powerful Call of Duty 4 engine. For the Wii, which as we all know isn't nearly as powerful, the game has been obviously scaled down, and boy does it ever feel it. The game's frame rate is horrid to say the least, and occasionally the game just looks downright ugly. Combined with some clunky enemy AI, Quantum of Solace on the Wii ends up being a pretty lame endeavor. However, there are a few good points of the game that stop it from being a complete dud, including the fact that it includes some excellent sound effects and music, as well as Daniel Craig's voicework to boot. Also, the online and local multiplayer modes are much more fun than the game's campaign, and the controls are actually pretty good for a Wii FPS. Still though, there isn't as much to admire here as there should be. All in all, even for Wii owning Bond fanatics, Quantum of Solace is worth a look, but leave it at that.
