Summary: One of my favorite games of all time
Comment: With today's ultra-realistic sports games it's tough to imagine the impact a game like this would have. But at the time it was released on the Sega Genesis, Mutant League Hockey was (and still is) one of the most entertaining games available on that console, or any console since for that matter.

MLH obviously makes no attempt to be a "realistic" hockey game, but is rather a hockey-based game with a whole lot of twists. Fans throw weapons--whips, bats, even chainsaws--into the ring and players can actually be killed during the game. Each team has several special "trick" moves available that rely on some sort of trickery (like an exploding puck) to give them an advantage in the game. Even the ice rinks themselves pose a hazard--there are spikes along some of the edges that can impale your team and if a player falls through a hole in the ice you'll likely see his silhouette pass underneath the ice. Oh, and the goals are alive and will eat your players if they get too close.

As is probably apparent by now this is quite a violent game, not for the very weak at heart. Still, the violence is cartoonish and not realistic at all, and some of the mayhem (like the exploding pucks) is quite funny. MLH provides countless hours of entertainment. This is definitely a must-own if you have a Genesis, and let's hope EA decides to re-release the game on another platform.

Summary: A truly great spinoff on a great game.
Comment: Yes, this game is good. Like NHL '95 good. The graphics are surprisongly solid, and the gameplay is alot of fun. The computer opponent is competitive and provides a good challenge, but it never gets too hard. The gameplay is very similar to what you would find in an arcade. This ame is classic, so i urge you to go forth and buy immediaely. Good stuff.
