Summary: the most contraversel game i know has invaded the N64-beware
Comment: To this generation doom 64 would look like the most cruddy game ever concived.but it is far better than about 95% of the games on most consoles, but this game is not without blemish.let us start out with the following....
1) the good, the graphics are spectacular for a n64 FPS the enemis are well animated as well as the levels themselves, the lighting effects are divine when there is a neon red light not only will it show on your gun but also the enemies too, there is no music but there is ambient sounds and what not,the story seems to be the same old same old but this is not bad.

now heres the bad news(this should be read by parents for there own benefit)
the bad-as you know Doom is about a group of scientist that find a martian lab
that in game terms opened a portal to hell,so guess what the scientist do
they open the portal and low and behold they let out a boat load of demons that either kill or zombifiy the people there(you'll find some of the limbs ,and such in the levels, of the unfortunate ones) and you are sent to exterminate them and close the portal. the blood/gore factor of game is not pretty, of course i have not got past the third level but if i know Doom well its not going to get any better,as for demonic/satanic i haven't found any yet but there is 100% chance you'll find some in the latter levels, thats all for now for the bad.

in conclusion i would never recommend this game to anyone and this game should be avoided at all cost!!!(even though it is a high graphics games)

Summary: Quake 64 owns this
Comment: ...because, for me, in this game there is too much running around going, "okay what in the @#$% am I supposed to do now?" and "Where is the little arbitrarily-placed secret opening in some wall somewhere in the map which the switch I just pressed opened? Great, now I will probably spend 5 excruciating minutes searching for the thing. meanwhile I could be playing Quake." It is too frustrating for me because these elements (switches, keys) necessary to keep the momentum in the game going seem to me to be arbitrarily located around the levels, whereas in Quake there is a "rhyme and reason" to their placement. One time as I was playing this they hid a switch behind some secret armor inside a wall, but I got the armour and missed seeing the switch because it blended in with the background color and pattern. when I finally went back and noticed it I was fuming. This game is no fun for me to play at all, indeed, quite the opposite, sir.

Summary: DOOM at it's best!!
Comment: If you like scif/horror first person action games you can't go wrong here. Like in previous versions of this game, there are no objectives, you just blast your way through level after level of monster infested spaceports and labs. The enemies are still 2-Dimensional, but they have been revamped and look new and different. The weapons have also been improved. The framerate is very smooth and the graphics are clear and stylistic, with ambient lighting. There are 4 difficulty settings. The soundtrack is also very dark and ambient. The controls are a bit of a pain, you definetely have to adjust them. But theyr'e solid and fully customizable. This is one of the most fun shooting games Iv'e ever played. It's fast, simple, and intense. Doom 3 is great and all, but I still think this one is the best!

Summary: Great retro-gaming
Comment: With anticipation of the Nintendo Wii's release, and the subsequent availability of all previous Nintendo platform games, I have been looking through the online archives for some of the games I am looking forward to playing again.
DOOM 64 was by far the most played game on my Nintendo 64. I have not played the game in about 5 years but I remember it fairly well. This review is based on what I do recall. If some details are inacurate, I apologize in advance.
The graphics in this game are clearly outdated by now. But good graphics does not a game make. I played DOOM3 and while it was spectacular to look at and had some genuine scares, it still was lacking something. Perhaps it had too much. It tried to give a story to DOOM. I actually liked the arbitrary action in DOOM 64. You were a Marine and you were fighting hell spawn on the moon of Kronos. Your objective was not to live, but to survive long enough to kill the Mother Alien. You had some puzzle solving and plenty of killing to so. Nice. SImple. Perfect.
What I liked about DOOM 64 was that there were 4 secret levels that contained hidden Pentagrams. Through the course of the game, as you came upon them you weren';t sure what they were for. It wasn't until the final boss battle that you realized just how significant they are to your ultimate success for they are actually locks to portals that prevent infinate legions of demons bearing down on you while you try to destroy the Mother Alien. If you do not have at least two of these locks, then your chances for success are minimal, at best. Finding these pentagrams added a whole new depth and challange to DOOM 64 that was not present in DOOM3.
THat aside, the moody soundtrack and countless jolt scares made it a first of it's kind. It improved on the original PC versions with better graphics and better level designs. Levels would morph right in front of you as you hit switches, sometimes completely changing the layout of a whole level.
Also, sorely missing form DOOM3 were the Cyber Demons and their obliterating rocket launchers. THese beasts were the rare enemy that would consistantly have me running in fear. Barons, you could side step and take down with a few double barrled shotgun blasts. But Cyber Demons required you to use strategy and precision. And they would waste you in a heartbeat if you were not careful. A great adversary to be sure. Just hearing the grinding of their mechanical hooves as they treaded in my direction still gives me semi-chills. Great stuff.
Overall DOOM64 is a great game. What it lacks in graphics and presentation it makes up for in style and attitude. THis was the peak of what DOOM would be until DOOM3 came around 8 years later. I can't wait to play it again in the near future. If you have not played it, and you get a Wii....give it a try. I don't expect many people to connect to it the way I do, but who knows.

Thanks for listening.
